IRD
Founded in 1944, the Institute for Development Research is a French public science and technology research institute under the joint authority of the French ministries in charge of Foreign Affairs and National Education, Higher Education and Research. A not-for-profit government-funded public organisation dedicated to development, its general mission is to conduct research, training and consultancy work with a view to promoting the economic, social and cultural development in the Southern countries. With a special focus on the relationship between man and his environment in the tropical and Mediterranean countries. The aim of IRD is to respond to the major development challenges and to bring the fruits of research into sustainable development for the better life of people. The IRD's scientific activities are organised through five departments: Earth and Environment; Living Resources; Societies and Health; Expertise and consulting; Support and training.
