MSI

The Ministry of Research, Science and Technology is responsible for New Zealand’s Government-level S&T interactions.

The Ministry’s International Team has considerable experience in administering and supporting international research initiatives and has a strong working relationship with the EC through the NZ-EU Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement which was signed in 2008. It also has strong formal and informal links to the New Zealand research community and research funding agencies, (some of which are likely to have an strong interest in the PACE-Net project), and with New Zealand Aid, which manages the Government’s substantial development funding for the Pacific.

Key MSI staff expected to participate in the PACE-Net project include: Dr Suzanne Bertrand, Director of the Ministry’s International Linkages Team; Karla Falloon, who is NZ’s Science Counsellor for Europe, based in Brussels; and Rick Petersen, Senior Adviser, International Linkages who has worked for 15 years with on developing New Zealand-European linkages.

MSI also is a co-funder, and has a role in the management of, FRENZ (Facilitating Research co-operation between Europe and New Zealand) which is a joint initiative between MSI and the European Commission to enhance the engagement of the New Zealand research, science and technology community with FP7. Carole Glynn (CGC) the Director of FRENZ will provide, the FP7 training identified in WP4.5 and is a partner in this project.
