Pacific symposium, 17 October 2012, EHESS and ANU in Canberra

Tuesday 16 October - Wednesday 17 October 2012 The École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Canberra (EHESS @ ANU) and the Australian National University (CAP and ANUCES) will be hosting a two-day symposium on 16-17 October 2012. The symposium will be held at the Centre for European Studies, ANU, Canberra. The symposium will provide an opportunity for a dialogue between Francophone and Anglophone research in the Pacific.

On the first day, the EHESS @ ANU is hosting a presentation called “France in the Pacific: an update”, discussing the current political, judicial, and economic situation, in the three French collectivities of the South Pacific (New Caledonia, Wallis & Futuna, and French Polynesia). Later in the day the Centre for European Studies and the EHESS @ ANU are co-hosting a presentation on “Europe in the Pacific” focusing on expectations for relations with Europe from a Pacific perspective and the Pacific Island-European relationships from a European perspective.

On the second day, the ANU College of Asia Pacific/ State Society & Governance in Melanesia in partnership with the ANU Centre for European Studies, the Centre for Democratic Institutions and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Canberra (EHESS @ ANU) are organising an International Colloquium “Changing Oceania” which brings together Francophone and Anglophone specialists from Australia and the Pacific.
