ANR "FLASH" /JST "J-RAPID" coordinated call to promote urgent research activity related to earthquake disaster
Following the major earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11th, 2011, the French and Japanese research agencies agreed to open a ANR "FLASH" /JST "J-RAPID" coordinated call to promote urgent research activity related to this major disaster. This call is open to any French-Japanese research proposal dealing with the Great Tohoku earthquake, the detailed analysis of the event itself and of all its components and consequences, and the lessons to be learnt regarding the prevention of earthquake and tsunami disasters, excluding topics related to the nuclear industry and radiation safety.
The "Flash" call had been initiated for the Haiti earthquake in 2010. This call type allows for the selection and financing of research projects in a shorter period of time (3 to 4 months) without infringing the basic principles of the agency (competitive call for proposals, peer review).
It has been however slightly modified to accommodate the coordinated call with JST. In particular, proposals must be rather short (no more than 18 months with an end no later than March 2013), and include at least one French and one Japanese research team.
