Publications on current and future climate of 15 Pacific island countries
New information about the current and future climate of 14 Pacific island countries and East Timor is now available in user-friendly publications that have been released in the lead up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting being held in Perth from today. This new science was highlighted in the Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd’s opening remarks of a meeting of Commonwealth and Developing Small States’ Foreign Ministers held in Perth on 25 October 2011.
The 15 country-specific brochures have been produced as part of a collaborative effort between the Pacific Climate Change Science Program (PCCSP) and the national meteorological services in 14 Pacific island countries and East Timor. Each brochure presents information about the past, current and future climate of the country in an accessible way, with the aim of helping to build the understanding of, and plan for climate change in these countries. As part of a continued effort to share the comprehensive research and engage with regional audiences, each country brochure will be translated into a local language.
The brochures can be downloaded from the publications section of the PCCSP’s website: www.pacificclimatechangescience.org
This is a preview of more to come with the full two volume publication – Climate Change in the Pacific: Scientific Assessment and New Research. Volume 1: Regional Overview. Volume 2: Country Reports due to be launched in November 2011. The PCCSP is managed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) in collaboration with the Australian Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency. This comprehensive science program is implemented by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
